Victorian Diamond and Enamel Phoenix Rising from the Ashes Brooch in 18ct Yellow Gold
Old Cut, Millegrain Set
Description
Captured in flight a mythical, immortal, phoenix has been intricately portrayed in 18ct yellow gold, enamel and diamonds. Exquisitely modelled the body, wing and tail feathers of this beautiful bird have been portrayed in gold, and richly enamelled in a captivating array of blue, pink, yellow and golden-brown ember tones. Designed to have maximum show pinned across a bodice or neck line the delicate enamel work catches the eye, which is further enhanced by the top sections of each wing sparkling with old cut diamonds. Portrayed since ancient times as a powerful symbol of rebirth the phoenix regenerates, arising from the ashes of its predecessor. The allure and beauty of this creature have resulted in countless portrayals in jewellery and the decorative arts. The famous playwright William Shakespeare even featured the phoenix in a poem written in 1601 called The Phoenix and the Turtle. Younger audiences have been introduced to this fiery creature through the appearance of Fawkes the Phoenix in the world-famous series of Harry Potter novels.
