Antique Art Deco Boivin Chevalier Style Ring 1.24ct in Platinum

A geometric platinum, 18ct gold and diamond chevalier cocktail ring by Juliette Moutard for Rene Boivin from the Art Deco period (1934). Two romantic old cut diamonds have been claw set, and delicately sparkle inside bold polished platinum square surrounds. This imposing design perfectly showcases the Art Deco style by contrasting the round curves of old cut diamonds against strong geometric lines and forms. The boldness of this design ensures that this beautiful piece is as wearable today as it was nearly one hundred years ago. Inspired by antique examples this design is an innovative reinterpretation of a classic Toi et Moi ring. Derived from the French term meaning “you and me”, it perfectly symbolises the pair of diamonds that feature at the centre of the design. Hugely popular as an engagement ring style during the 19th-century the two stones represented the two lovers joining together. The engraver and designer Rene Boivin founded the firm bearing his name in Paris during the 1890s. This period was hugely important for jewellery design, and the Boivin name quickly gained a reputation for high quality unconventional pieces that showcased sculptural naturalism. On Boivin’s death in 1917 Madame Rene Boivin took control of the firm, and recruited the designer Juliette Moutard in the early 1930s. Continuing in her role until the 1970s her iconic designs convey the Boivin principle that jewellery had its own distinct identity, and reflected the personality of the wearer.
