Eastern Appeal
Source & Origin
Exceptionally pure, incomparably beautiful, and vanishingly rare, legendary Golconda diamonds are among the most desirable gemstones on Earth. Worn by Maharajas and royalty alike, they have been prized for centuries for their unparalleled clarity and beauty.
India’s Golconda region was one of the first known diamond sources, renowned for producing stones of exceptional beauty and clarity. It was said that they glittered in the riverbeds just a few kilometres from modern-day Hyderabad. By the late 19th century, the mines were depleted, leaving behind a legacy as rare as the stones themselves and earning Golconda diamonds the status of a true collector’s gem.
A Drop of Provenance
Flawless Symmetry
At the heart of this necklace is an exceptional D-colour, 8.04ct Type IIa pear-cut diamond, selected for its extraordinary purity and brilliance. The absence of trace elements results in a diamond of supreme transparency and intensity: what collectors describe as ultra-limpidity, an almost impossible clarity, like gazing through the purest mountain water. Fewer than 2% of all diamonds ever mined achieve this classification - a distinction that speaks for itself.
Curated to complement this unique stone are seventy-six GIA-certified D–E pear and brilliant-cut diamonds. Each has been hand-selected by a member of the Pragnell family to ensure their colour, cut, and clarity are of the highest standard, resulting in a final design that is flawlessly symmetrical.
Enduring Elegance
Handcrafted in Great Britain
To pay fitting tribute to the unique pear at the centre of this piece, a number of designs were conceived between members of the Pragnell family and our workshops. Every detail had to showcase exquisite artistry, flawless symmetry, and timeless elegance.
By aligning each of the pear cuts (32.47ct) along the necklaces length and punctuating it with sparkling brilliant-cut diamonds (6.54ct) the final layout created a seamless ribbon of flawlessly symmetrical diamonds. Working in Platinum the workshop then delicately claw set each stone atop a refined knife-edge collar, creating an impossibly fine, flowing feminine silhouette that draws the eye down to the truly unique Golconda Type IIa pear drop pendant.
