Tsavo Region

Ruby Deposits in Kenya

The history of ruby mining in Kenya started in the early 1970s, primarily in Taita Taveta County's Tsavo region, part of the Mozambique Belt. The region is renowned for its rich ruby deposits, especially around the towns of Kasigau, Mwatate, and Maungu. These gems are famously referred to as "Tsavo rubies" due to their striking colours and distinctive inclusions, which set them apart from rubies found in other parts of the world.

These gemstones are highly sought-after in the market due to their uniqueness, with many featuring visible inclusions that contribute to their charm and individuality. Each inclusion tells a distinct story, making Kenyan rubies not only valuable but also truly distinctive in the world of gemstones.

 Making of a Masterpiece

We recently acquired an exceptional untreated 5.52ct oval-cut Kenyan ruby, previously set in a vintage piece. This exceptional ruby stands out with its breathtaking beauty and unparalleled quality. The oval cut maximises light reflection, enhancing the gemstone's brilliance and allure.

At Pragnell, we prioritise the stone above all else. Every detail, including the size, shape, and design, has been meticulously considered to enhance the beauty of the mesmerising centre stone.
