Masterpiece Astoria 4.167ct Kashmir Sapphire and Diamond Ring in 18ct Yellow Gold

A rare and commanding Kashmir sapphire (4.167ct) has been secured by four hand-shaped 18ct yellow gold claws as the centrepiece of this spectacular Masterpiece Astoria setting ring. Inspired by the Art Deco architecture of 1930s New York City this electric blue sapphire has been expertly complemented by precision cut sparkling diamonds (1.46cts) that define the wide angular shoulders of the design. Further baguette cut stones top and tail the central sapphire with small sparkling brilliants adding the perfect finishing touch. Buttery yellow gold has been used to showcase these diamonds, which expertly draw the eye towards the delectable centre stone. Few gemstones are rarer than Kashmir sapphires, which originate from the legendary Kashmir mine in Northern India. This mine only yielded these remarkable electric blue sapphires for a few years at the end of the 19th century and was largely depleted by 1887. As such, these sapphires are only found in existing pieces of antique jewellery either remaining in their original settings or having been remounted in the Art Deco or Retro periods. This example was hand-selected by members of the Pragnell family and has been remounted in this stunning setting. Our six generations of experience ensure that the history and rarity of this sapphire have been perfectly understood with a new setting that expertly balances history and modernity. This superb gemstone is accompanied by certification from both the Swiss Gemmological Institute (SSEF) and Gubelin laboratories confirming its Kashmir origin and that it has not been subjected to any heat treatment to enhance its colour and clarity.
