Description

A statement 18ct yellow gold cross pendant, set with twenty rose cut diamonds from the Victorian period. Expertly crafted the distinct charm and character of the antique rose cut perfectly forms the central iconic cross shape. This arrangement has been defined by deep black enamel bands, and intricate acanthus scroll work end sections. Cross pendants were particularly popular during the 19th-century, with examples being worn by Queen Victoria and her daughters to demonstrate their faith. The Royal Collection holds a number of important cross pendants that have been accumulated since this time. Distinctly Victorian with the bands of black enamel reminding us of Queen Victoria’s grief this example bears the Owl hallmark, which tells us it was imported into France. Presented in its original fitted box this example is perfect for both collectors of Victorian jewellery and those wanting to wear a statement jewel. In more modern times, Jackie Kennedy had a large collection of cross pendants, which she wore frequently throughout her lifetime.
