Description

This charming and characterful Turtle brooch is formed from a claret red cabochon garnet, which has been secured in a closed back rub-over setting. The head, feet and tail of this friendly reptile sparkle with romantic old cut diamonds that will sparkle beautifully in soft candlelight. Expertly modelled, the eyes of the tortoise have been brought to life by two small cabochon garnets. The Victorians were fascinated by the natural world and revelled in incorporating flora and fauna into jewellery and the wider decorative arts. Turtles in particular were known for their wisdom and knowledge.
