Description

A striking 1.16ct octagonal step cut Colombian emerald and diamond ring from the Victorian period. Gleaming with vibrant green tones this verdant emerald has been expertly secured in complimentary warm 18ct yellow gold. A halo of twelve cushion shaped old mine cut diamonds have been set into silver, and will come alive when worn in soft evening candlelight. Delicate open work shoulders showcasing figure of eight twisted gold decoration along with a slim fluted shank perfectly completes this beautiful piece. The Victorian period was incredibly important for jewellery design with this example showcasing a striking and important Colombian emerald.
Nestled beneath the verdant rainforests that cover the country, the Colombian mines are famous for producing stones that have an intense green colour. Certified by the AGL (American Gemmological Laboratories) to confirm its Colombian origin, this example has only been subjected to insignificant oil clarity enhancement. Rings became increasingly popular in the Victorian period when it became fashionable to wear multiple rings on each hand. This was influenced by Queen Victoria and her royal relatives, who dictated styles and tastes to the Empire at large.
Emeralds were also popular, and were regularly worn by the Queen herself set into tiaras, necklaces and brooches, after having initially received an emerald set engagement ring from Prince Albert in the late 1830s. Showcasing the birthstones for the months of April and May this superb quality example will make the perfect engagement or dress ring. Check Specifications for ring size details.
