Description
An important Burmese sapphire and emerald bombé dress ring by Suzanne Belperron from the 1950s. Showcasing true bold 1950s glamour the combination of blue, green and yellow dazzle the eye in this superb design. The central sapphire (12.543ct) is accompanied with certification from the well-known SSEF laboratory confirming that it has not been subjected to any heat treatment to enhance its colour. Suzanne Belperron (1900-1983) can be regarded as a true icon of 20th-century jewellery design. Beginning her career in 1919 working with the widow of Rene Boivin she spearheaded an unconventional naturalistic approach to jewellery design. Coveted by the Duchess of Windsor throughout her lifetime Belperron pieces are instantly recognisable (her style is regarded as her signature), and hugely sought after by collectors today. The rubover scattered effect setting of the emeralds on the shoulders of this ring are in fact very similar to the design of a Belperron compact owned by the Duchess of Windsor.
