Description

A superb pair of Victorian silver fish servers by the distinguished silversmiths Mappin & Webb, hallmarked Sheffield 1893. The large fish slice and matching fork are pierced and decorated throughout with an elaborate marine-themed composition, fish, shells, and scrolling foliate detail, whilst the handles are richly decorated with aquatic ornament in a design of remarkable coherence and ambition. The piece retains its original fitted case, lined in deep burgundy velvet and silk with the retailer's label to the interior, a rare and pleasing survival. An outstanding and decorative pair of Victorian table silver in excellent order.
