Silver Decorative Basket on Feet Mappin and Webb, 1937
Hallmarked London
$916
Description
A refined and elegant silver basket by the distinguished silversmiths Mappin & Webb, hallmarked London 1937. Of rectangular form with canted corners, the sides are pierced with a geometric lattice pattern of great precision and regularity, with a central foliate cartouche providing a pleasing decorative accent. The plain polished base sits within the pierced gallery, whilst the whole is raised on four square bracket feet connected by a matching pierced stretcher, a detail that adds both structural elegance and visual interest. A well-conceived and beautifully finished piece of mid-twentieth century English silverwork, equally suited to use or display.
