Description

A European 14ct yellow gold and enamel stick pin in the form of the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales from the first half of the 20th century. This is composed of three intricately detailed enamelled white feathers that have been defined by rose-cut diamonds set into the curled top sections. The central crown features a distinctive red enamel band with the bottom royal blue ribbon showcasing the German motto Ich Dien (I Serve). First seen in the Tudor period this badge has been used by every Prince of Wales since the early 16th century. The current holder is Prince William who assumed the title on the 9th of September 2022. Stick pins were incredibly popular jewels during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Often presented to mark special occasions by relatives and loved ones, stick pins were largely sentimental and highly treasured. Members of the British and European royal families often commissioned stickpins to present during engagements, tours and visits. This example is contained in its original fitted box from a jeweller based in The Hague.
