Montblanc iconic white star emblem

Pioneering Since 1906

Founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 1906 by Claus-Johannes Voss, Alfred Nehemias, and August Eberstein, Montblanc has been pivotal in shaping the history of writing instruments, particularly the modern fountain pen. They transformed pens from disposable tools into luxurious, lifelong companions, featuring a retractable nib to prevent ink leakage.

In 1910, Montblanc adopted its name, inspired by the highest peak in the Alps, symbolising excellence and European craftsmanship. This era also introduced the iconic white star emblem, representing the snow-covered summit of Mont Blanc and its six glacier valleys, solidifying the brand's association with quality and prestige.

Rise to Prominence

When Montblanc was first founded, the pen market focused on functionality. However, Montblanc redefined it as a symbol of craftsmanship, intellect, and status—a notion that remains today. From the 1920s to the 1950s, the brand made pivotal advancements in luxury writing instruments. In 1924, they launched the Meisterstück ("Masterpiece"), which set the standard for elegance and reliability and quickly became one of the world's most prestigious writing tools. It even introduced the idea of the "writing instrument as jewellery," akin to fine watches. During the 1930s and 1950s, Montblanc further expanded its international appeal and reputation for sophistication.

Celebrated in film and literature, these pens symbolise refinement and success. Montblanc popularised gifting pens for milestones such as graduations and promotions. Today, the brand honours its heritage while embracing innovation and sustainability, introducing digital writing tools such as the Augmented Paper and the MB 01 Smart Headphones. Collaborating with artists and initiatives that promote literacy, Montblanc's recent collections, including 1858 and Heritage, blend historical roots with modern design, showcasing its ability to evolve while remaining true to its legacy.
