The Early Years
Bvlgari was founded in 1884 in Rome by Sotirios Voulgaris, a Greek silversmith from Epirus, Greece. The brand's name is derived from the founder's surname, Voulgaris, with the classical Latin "V" in the logo representing the letter "U." This rich history underscores the brand's unique heritage and its evolution into a symbol of luxury and craftsmanship.

Early 20th Century
The business was passed down through the family, most notably to Voulgaris' sons, Costantino and Giorgio, who helped shape Bvlgari’s signature style.
In 1905, Sotirios and his sons established the flagship store on Via dei Condotti in Rome, which remains a significant landmark today. Their early designs drew inspiration from French and Greek classicism, showcasing traditional techniques and motifs that emphasised elegance and craftsmanship.

Post-War Expansion
During the 1950s and 60s, Bvlgari began to establish its distinct style, characterised by bold and colourful gemstone combinations, the use of cabochon cuts, and strong architectural lines with symmetrical forms. This unique aesthetic quickly garnered attention, making Bvlgari a favourite among Hollywood stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, and Audrey Hepburn.

Iconic Designs
During the 1970s, Bvlgari expanded its international presence by opening stores in major cities such as New York, Geneva, Monte Carlo, and Paris. In 1977, the brand launched the iconic Bvlgari-Bvlgari watch, drawing inspiration from ancient Roman coins. The 1980s and 1990s saw Bvlgari continue its growth in the luxury market, as the brand broadened its offerings to include accessories and fragrances, further solidifying its reputation in the high-end industry.
Known for blending classicism with innovation, Bvlgari elevates coloured gemstones and showcases exquisite architectural jewellery design. Emphasising Italian craftsmanship, Bvlgari has maintained its status as one of the most prestigious names in jewellery, often associated with Roman opulence, cinematic glamour, and a bold sense of artistic daring.
