Description

A classic old European cut diamond convertible sunburst brooch/pendant from the Edwardian period. Designed to command attention clipped to an evening gown or worn around the neck this exquisite jewel resonates with the decadence of the period (1901-1910). Fourteen shaped rays extend from the central cluster motif with fittings to the reverse that enable the piece to be effortlessly worn as either a statement brooch or pendant. A popular design during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods this is a truly special example. The American First Lady Jackie Kennedy (1929-1994) wore a beautiful 19th-century diamond sunburst brooch in her hair during the 1960s. Purchased during an official visit to London this piece was worn regularly during her time in the White House. It has since been passed to her daughter Caroline who served as the United States Ambassador to Japan.
