Brilliant cut, Claw set
Description
One hundred and one sparkling brilliant cut diamonds (15.50cts) have been expertly matched to form a classic line necklace. Securely claw set into lustrous 18ct white gold this is a truly classic design. Historically known as a riviere or river of diamonds this elegant design gained popularity in the mid-18th-century. Always an expensive jewel, line necklaces clearly demonstrated wealth and status. Queen Mary (1867-1953) adored fine jewellery, and is largely responsible for shaping the exceptional collection worn by her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II today. Photographs of the Queen in the early 20th-century show her wearing up to nine diamond line necklaces, which completely cover her neck and demonstrate true regal style.
