Art Deco Cartier 1.80ct Diamond, Sapphire and Ruby Flying Goose Brooch in Platinum and 14ct White Gold
Old European Cut, Pavé Set
Description
An exceptional flying goose brooch by the House of Cartier (New York) from the Art Deco period. Beautifully modelled with the neck outstretched in flight a single ruby defines the watchful eye of this bird as it powers through the sky. Old European cut diamonds (1.80cts) have been set into the neck, wing and tail. A captivating carved sapphire forms the body of the goose, which places this jewel firmly in the Cartier oeuvre from the Art Deco period. Enthralled by carved sapphires, rubies and emeralds seen in Indian jewellery, Jacques Cartier began incorporating these into the designs of the House. Since it was founded in Paris in 1847, the House has gone from strength to strength, being famously credited as “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers” by King Edward the VII. The house was at its zenith when it was owned and run by the founding family, from 1847 to 1964. Signed and numbered, this collectible brooch is a superb example of an Art Deco jewel.
