Victorian Silver Engraved Cigarette Case Willian Aitken, 1900
Hallmarked Chester
$447
Description
A fine late Victorian silver cigarette case by William Aitken, hallmarked Chester, 1900. Of elegant rounded rectangular form, the polished silver body is centred by an elaborate interlaced monogram, finely engraved with scrolling flourishes, foliate motifs and delicate stippled detailing. The crisp engraving contrasts beautifully with the highly polished surface, while the gently curved edges and hinged construction reflect the refined craftsmanship and understated elegance characteristic of the period. A particularly charming example of late Victorian British silver, combining practical form with finely executed engraved decoration.
