Description
A silver-mounted glass biscuit jar, the moulded glass body pressed with dense scrolling foliate decoration, its waisted form rising to a richly chased silver collar of acanthus and floral ornament. The hinged silver cover is chased to match and surmounted by a bud finial, while the swing handle above is decorated with applied berry and leaf detail throughout.Made by William Comyns, hallmarked London 1900, the exuberant silver mounts sit in perfect harmony with the heavily decorated glass body, a thoroughly Victorian piece that delights in ornament at every turn.
