Silver Antique Mounted Claret Jug William & George Sissons, 1868
Hallmarked Sheffield
$2,806
Description
A Victorian silver-mounted claret jug with a globular glass body engraved all over with a repeating star pattern on a frosted ground, with a starburst to the base. The silver collar is chased with floral and foliate ornament between beaded borders, the oval cartouche to the front engraved with a monogram. The hinged domed cover is operated by a thumb lever, and the voluted scroll handle with foliate terminals completes the mounts with the same assured elegance. Made by William & George Sissons and hallmarked Sheffield, 1868, this is a fine example of Victorian silversmithing.
