PHENOMENAL GEMSTONES
Australian Black Opal Ring
Introducing a captivating 6.89ct Masterpiece Australian Black Opal from the legendary mines of Lightning Ridge in Australia.
Lightning Ridge
An Outback Odyssey
Australian Black Opals trace their origins to Lightning Ridge, a remote region of New South Wales. This area is renowned for producing the world’s most vivid examples of this rare gemstone. Approximately sixty million years ago, mineral-rich water filled the cracks and voids of ancient rock, leaving behind deposits of silica that eventually solidified into opal. The region’s dark ironstone earth gives each gem its dramatic contrast and depth of colour, making Lightning Ridge synonymous with the finest black opals ever discovered.
The Black Opal
A Kaleidoscopic Phenomenon
As hypnotising as a galaxy of stars, these rare iridescent gemstones contain a kaleidoscope of colours that make them incomparable to any other gems. This exceptionally rare example has been hand-selected by a member of the Pragnell family for its dark base material, with particularly vivid opalescence, exhibiting large flashes of red in a highly prized Harlequin patchwork of blues, greens, and oranges. This is a striking example of an exceptionally rare stone. A truly phenomenal gemstone.
Crafting a Classic
Complementary Colours
Our master craftsmen selected our Skimming Stone mount to showcase the gentle curves and balanced proportions of this unique stone. At the centre of the wide gold band the Australian Black Opal reveals a kaleidoscopic play of colour, held by refined talon claws that allow light to flow freely across its surface. Surrounding the opal, a precise arrangement of carré cut sapphires, Paraiba tourmalines, rubies, and tsavorites mirrors its shifting hues, creating a harmonious reflection of the gem’s brilliance.
Mesmerising Motion
Beauty in Simplicity
The final piece showcases the most skilful of designs, beauty in simplicity. The broad gold halo surrounding the central stone reflects light across it, amplifying the play of colour as the stone shimmers in motion. The kaleidoscopic flashes of colour highlight the assortment of fine gems set into the surround, creating a mesmerising display.
