Description

A statement 18ct yellow gold cross pendant, set with seventeen cushion-cut vibrant green demantoid garnets (7.00cts) from the Georgian period. Expertly crafted the distinct charm and character of these sought after garnets perfectly forms the central iconic cross shape. This arrangement has been defined by elaborate scroll work end sections. One of the most sought after and valuable members of the garnet family, demantoid examples were used to enhance the popular flora and fauna jewels of the Georgian and later Victorian periods. Cross pendants were particularly popular during the 19th-century, with examples being worn by Queen Victoria and her daughters to demonstrate their faith. The Royal Collection holds a number of important cross pendants that have been accumulated since this time.
