Description
A pair of magnificent pear cut amethyst and diamond earrings by the House of Cartier from the Retro period. Securely claw set each amethyst glows with rich purple tones, defined by a slim textured gold surround that has been punctuated by small sparkling brilliant cut diamonds. These stunning earrings were handmade in the 1950s with the two magnificent pear cut amethyst gemstones being supplied by the original owner from a jewel they wanted remodelled. Signed “Monture Cartier” (mounted by Cartier) we see the finest craftsmanship from the House. Since it was founded in Paris in 1847, the House has gone from strength to strength, being famously credited as “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers” by King Edward the VII. The house was as its pinnacle when it was owned and run by the founding family, from 1847 to 1964.
