Antique Edwardian Natural Pearl and Diamond Pendant in Platinum
Natural Pearl Pendant, with Baguette Cut Diamond
Description
A delicate platinum, natural pearl and diamond drop pendant from the Edwardian period. A lustrous, pink toned, round natural pearl takes centre stage, suspended between an elegant curved leaf/fan motif and a slim, baguette cut diamond set, hexagonal barrel shaped element. Intricate millegrain detailing adds eye-catching interest and highlights the romantic beauty of the old cut diamonds. This beautiful pendant perfectly showcases the superb craftsmanship and intricate details that are found in the best pieces from the Edwardian period. Drop pendants perfectly suited the elaborate fashions of the time, and were an almost indispensable part of a lady's daily wardrobe. The Edwardian period only lasted for nine years (1901-1910), but it was an incredibly important era for jewellery design. Hugely intricate pieces, showcasing the very best diamonds and gemstones, were worn with elaborate fashions from the most famous French couture houses. Driven by the explosion of court life, steered by the fashion conscious King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, this was a truly special time. Natural pearls were also incredibly sought after during this period, as they were plucked from the depths by only the bravest of divers. The largest and most lustrous examples of natural pearls were worth far more than diamonds, and were worn with pride by royalty and the aristocracy.
A truly delicate and feminine jewel that will look stunning worn to celebrate a summer wedding, when the warm sun will illuminate the lustrous pearl and cause the diamonds to subtly sparkle.
