Tubogas Diamond Necklace in 18ct Yellow Gold

An elegant flexible 18ct yellow gold ‘gas pipe’ collar by Carlo Weingrill from the 1980s. Showcasing the re-emergence of bold gold jewellery seen in the earlier retro period (1941-1960) this stunning piece has been expertly crafted using interlocking strips of gold that have been wrapped tightly together to form a highly flexible piece. This truly innovative technique was developed due to the scarcity of jewellery materials during World War II. The richly polished gold surface combined with the ribbed texture means this highly tactile piece will tantalisingly sparkle in the summer sun. True 1980s glamour has been added by three white gold plaque sections set with lines of sparkling round brilliant cut diamonds. Still in operation today Weingrill originally specialised in 18ct gold pieces, and was the original creator of the famed Tubogas range for Bvlgari. Statement collar necklaces were fashionable during the retro period, and have continued to be worn and enjoyed ever since.
