The large size, thick nacre, and lustrous glow of the very best South Sea cultured pearls combine to ensure a dazzling spectacle when worn against the skin. Grown in the warm waters of Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines South Sea pearls are born from the Pinctada Maxima mollusc, which can grow up to 12 inches in diameter. The wonderful examples showcased here took many years to grow, and even longer to gather to form this impressive, matched strand. A favourite amongst royalty a superb suite of South Sea pearl jewellery was worn by the Duchess of Cambridge during a tour of Germany and Poland in 2017.
