The Central Impulse Chronometer
Pragnell are thrilled to present the Central Impulse Chronometer: a wristwatch ten years in the making, and a dazzling achievement in modern horology. The winner of the prize for innovation at the 2021 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, the Central Impulse Chronometer is a 21st century marvel that nevertheless tells a watchmaking story reaching back across the centuries.
An Evolution in Horology
The Central Impulse Chronometer is the first watch in Lederer’s Masters of Escapements series paying tribute to the pioneers of horological design, including John Harrisons Remontoir D’Égalité (1739), A.L Breguet Natural Escapement (1789), and George Daniels Independent Double-Wheel Escapement (1976), continuing Lederer’s long fascination with perfecting the ‘beating heart’ of a timepiece. A Landmark Design
The face of the Central Impulse Chronometer is dominated by the unusual presence of two running seconds hands, occupying a pair of open sub-dials on the left side of the dial, which elegantly overlap in a figure 8. This amounts to a dial-side illustration of the movement’s dual-train architecture: the openings reveal two symmetrical gear trains and the turns of the remontoirs, with each carrying a flame-blued, needle-shaped seconds hand.
