Art Nouveau Sapphire and Diamond Horseshoe Brooch in Platinum and 18ct Yellow Gold
Calibre Cut, Channel Set
Description
A platinum, 18ct yellow gold, diamond and sapphire horseshoe brooch from the Art Nouveau period. Perfectly shaped the iconic horseshoe shape has been defined by groupings of sea blue calibre cut sapphires and sparkling old cut diamonds. The horseshoe motif featured prominently in Victorian and Edwardian jewellery, as it was regarded as a symbol of good fortune. Brooches were worn frequently during this period, with multiple examples often being pinned to the outline of a corset. Her Majesty Queen Camilla wore an Edwardian horseshoe brooch set with diamonds, sapphires and rubies to the 2024 New Year’s Day service at the Church of St Mary Magdalene. This piece was originally commissioned by King Edward VII who was a passionate devotee of horse racing.
