About F.P.Journe Elegante Watches

A complete departure from quartz movements of old, the ground-breaking electro-mechanical movement from the F.P.Journe Elegante is available housed in a 40mm or a 48mm grade 5 titanium case. There is also the option of the exclusive Titalyt treatment from Journe where the titanium is subjected to an electro-plasma oxidation that improves the material’s hardness and resistance to wear and corrosion.

The reason most second hands in traditional quartz watches tick and automatic watches sweep is to save power. Moving the second hand once per second as opposed to 8 (which would give the sweep appearance of a 28,800 vph mechanical watch) saves a significant amount of battery power, although the average battery life for most quartz watches is still only 2 to 3 years. In the case of the Elegante, Journe has created a truly revolutionary concept; the model was designed to perform under daily use for between 8 and 10 years and up to 18 years in standby mode. The concept of this electro-mechanical watch features a motion detector visible on the dial at 4:30. When the Elegante is motionless it goes into standby mode after 35 minutes to save power and the hands, gears and rotors stop turning. Due to the revolutionary new design, when the Elegante moves again the hands set themselves automatically to the current time – either clockwise or counter clockwise. The sapphire dial is entirely covered in Super-LumiNova with contrasting applied numerals and blued hands resulting in complete legibility. A light and comfortable sports watch with 9 colourful strap options.
