Victorian Diamond Rooster Pin
0.90CT in Yellow Gold
Old Cut Diamond Pin, with Enamel Detail
Description
A rare diamond and enamel rooster tie pin from the Victorian period. A claw set old cut diamond forms the body of the rooster, whilst the feet, tail and head have been modelled in gold and engraved to create a feathered texture. The rooster's comb and wattle have been detailed in red enamel.
This exceptional tie pin from circa 1870 displays a characterful old cut and expert goldsmith skills, for which the period was renowned.
Traditionally used to secure a cravat or tie, pins are now often worn on the lapel. Motifs used to decorate pins included animals, sports and busts, or even a gold nugget.
