Tudor Watches

Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, understood that there was an opening in the market for quality timepieces which appealed to a broader market. Using the same principles as he did for Rolex, Wilsdorf focused on producing affordable timepieces of the highest possible quality.

In 1946, Hans Wilsdorf refined his vision and founded Montres TUDOR SA. The original Tudor watches would be guaranteed by Rolex for all aesthetic, technical and functional qualities.

Tudor has a track record of being worn by daring individuals in combat, when exploring our plant or competing in motorsport. The reliability, build quality and celebration of the past, whilst looking forward, makes Tudor the obvious choice for those who were Born to Dare.

The Submariner models were introduced in the 1950s, while the 1970s saw the first Tudor Chronographs arrive.

Born To Dare

The 1960s was a time for experimentation. One such experiment came in the form a watch that was developed into a prototype for the US Navy. Unlike modern dive watches the bezels on older models were not as well engineered as they are today. A sudden shock or impact could move the bezel the wrong was and in turn cause problems for the user. This was magnified in the high pressure field of the military.

Codenamed “The Commando Programme”, Tudor set about designing a watch that could prevent this issue.

In 2019 Tudor revisited the archives and brought back to life this forgotten project, making design updates that would inspire today’s collectors, while remaining true to the 1960s look. The new Tudor Black Bay P01 is the result of subtle combinations of historical aesthetic codes and contemporary watchmaking. The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight was also released to pay tribute to an historic model, namely the first Tudor diver’s watch that was waterproof to 200 metres, created in 1958, and known as the Big Crown ref 7924 Oyster Prince Submariner.
