GMT-Master-II

Rolex GMT-master II

The GMT-Master, introduced in 1955, was developed to meet the needs of intercontinental airline pilots, and proved invaluable to those whose professions involve long-distance travel. Featuring a rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel and a separate 24-hour hand, it allows those who travel the world to read two different time zones simultaneously, and up to three by turning the rotatable bezel.

KEEPING PACE WITH CHANGING TIMES

Although the GMT-Master II was designed essentially for professional pilots, its combination of peerless functionality and rugged good looks has attracted a wider travelling public. As well as appreciating its ability to display different time zones, these travellers admire the robustness and versatile appearance that make the GMT‑Master II eminently suitable for globetrotting and, indeed, for any occasion.

ACROSS TIME ZONES

With the advent of the jet age in the 1950s, intercontinental travel meant that airliners began to swiftly fly across successive time zones, making it important to know the time in various destinations around the world simultaneously. The GMT-Master was therefore developed to meet these specific needs of airline pilots. It became the official watch of airlines such as Pan American World Airways.

BEZEL WITH HIGHLY RESISTANT CERACHROM INSERT

The GMT-Master II features a bidirectional rotatable bezel with a 24-hour graduated Cerachrom insert. The insert is virtually scratchproof and is made from extremely hard and corrosion-resistant ceramic. Its colour is not affected by UV rays. The numerals and graduations are engraved in the ceramic and coated with gold or platinum. The bezel is what gives the GMT-Master II its signature visual identity.
