There is a before and after in the Royal Oak history of modern horology. Launched in 1972 by Audemars Piguet, the first luxury sports watch was a breakthrough creation right from the start. Legend has it that this model was designed in one night. Forty years later, the Royal Oak has become an authentic contemporary watch icon.
This spectacularly non-conformist watch, consistently one step ahead of its time, has left a permanent imprint on the history of modern watchmaking. All the signature details found on the original collection continue to adorn all current Royal Oak models; a dial with a tapisserie pattern, a strong signature detail of the collection; an octagonal bezel with eight polished hexagonal screws in white gold and a bracelet seamlessly integrated to the case with perfectly assembled links and studs arranged in progressively diminishing order of size.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak, the Manufacture in Le Brassus is introducing new versions, forever respecting the identity codes of the original collection first set out 40 years ago, to conquer the world with a totally unprecedented sports watch.
