A yellow gold, sapphire and seed pearl circular brooch from the Edwardian period. This stunning circular brooch is formed from intricately calibre cut, rich blue Montana sapphires (3.50ct). These gemstones fit seamlessly together, and are accentuated by lustrous seed pearls. Circular brooches were popular during this period as they were perfectly suited to secure the neck sections of fashionable and elaborate blouses. The vacant centre section also enabled expensive and luxurious fabrics to show through. Highly prized vivid cornflower blue sapphires were first discovered in Montana in 1865, and were hugely sought after in America, with the colour tone perfectly matching the blue featured on the national flag.
