Belle Époque Saltwater Pearl Necklet in 18ct Yellow Gold

An unusual and alluring, 18ct yellow gold, natural saltwater, single strand pearl necklace from the Belle Époque period. Eighty two graduated, certified natural pearls have been securely knotted in an eye-catching arrangement, with delicate seed pearls strung in between the larger examples. A beautiful clasp completes this design, and has been set with a floral cluster of nine sparkling brilliant cut diamonds (0.50ct). Pearls were much favoured during the Victorian and Belle Époque periods, as this gemstone from the sea was viewed as a sign of purity, and started to be worn by brides on their wedding day. Jewellery produced during this iconic era embraced the magical qualities of natural pearls, and resulted in them being featured in a wide range of designs. Natural pearls were incredibly sought after during this period, as they were plucked from the depths of the dangerous Persian Gulf by only the bravest of divers.
