Description
A rare 3.98ct cushion cut entrancing Burmese ruby has been secured by four double hand shaped 18ct yellow gold claws as the centrepiece of this spectacular Masterpiece Astoria setting ring. Inspired by the Art Deco architecture of 1930s New York city this rare central ruby has been expertly complemented by precision cut baguette diamonds that define the wide angular shoulders of the design. Further baguette cut stones top and tail the centre stone with small sparking brilliants adding the perfect finishing touch. Lustrous and durable platinum has been used to showcase these diamonds, which expertly draw the eye towards the delectable centre stone. Burma or Myanmar is a country that is renowned for its deposits of extraordinary gemstones. Deep red rubies are particularly sought after with the important cushion cut example here being accompanied by certification (SSEF) to confirm that it has not been subjected to any heat treatment to improve its colour and clarity. Designed by a member of the Pragnell family this setting reminds us of the monumental wall lanterns found on the landmark Waldorf-Astoria hotel which has dominated Fifth Avenue in New York since the early 1930s. As a sixth-generation family jeweller Pragnell are experts at sourcing the rarest and most sought-after gemstones in the world. Handcrafted in our workshops in the heart of England they offer the superb quality of the Pragnell Seal, and showcase exceptional artistry, craftsmanship and gemstones.
