Description
A bold platinum and old cut diamond shaped plaque ring from the Art Deco period. A central elongated rectangular plaque head has been set with two large old cut stones. These have been surrounded by arrangements of smaller stones, which will sparkle magnificently when worn. The design has been defined by two fan-shaped end sections, which showcase the influence of the Indian decorative arts. A simple buttery 18ct yellow gold shank completes the design contrasting superbly against the white lustre of the platinum head. Jewellery produced during this period (1911-1940) was inspired by modernity, and had a lasting impact on jewellery design that can still be seen today. The intense metallic sheen of platinum, combined with its strength and density enabled intricate designs with minimal metal mounts to be produced. These designs allowed diamonds and gemstones to speak for themselves, which can be seen in the striking showcase displayed here. Originally this ring would have been worn as a symbol of wealth and status along with an arrangement of bold bracelets and other jewels to an evening party. During this period short sleeved fashions exposed the arms and wrists, and enabled sparkling jewels to catch all eyes on the dance floor.
